The New York marathon crosses the city’s 5 boroughs. Thanks
to its course and to the beauty of the city, the New York marathon
is one of the marathons with the highest attendance with athletes
from all over the world. It is held on the first Sunday of November,
and besides the professional runners, it attracts also amateurs.
The number of participants is restricted to 37.000 persons selected
through a lottery system giving priority to those who have already
run the race in the past.
The New York marathon begins in Staten Island in the vicinity
of the Verrazzano bridge, which quickly fills with runners. The
race moves through Brooklyn , then enters Queens through the Pulaski
bridge , the half way point of the marathon .
Shortly there after, another bridge leads the athelets into Manhattan,
then, after briefly touching the Bronx, they proceed through Harlem,
down Fifth Avenue and into Central Park where the the competition
ends. The time limit to end the race is 8 hours. First Sunday
in November.
