The Chrysler Building is one of the most famous landmarks of
New York City. Built for the Chrysler corporation, the skyscraper
was built at a frantic pace during the 1920’s when builders
were fiercely competing to build the tallest skyscraper in the
world.
Craig Severance, the designer of the skyscraper called today
the Trump Building, to reach the target added two floors to his
building, without knowing that the architect of the Chrysler Building,
William Van Halen, had alredy obtained permission to build a 38
meters Art Deco stainless steel spire that is still today the
feature of the building.
The Chrysler building was world’s tallest skyscraper for
just one year, when it was surpassed by the famous Empire State
Building. The Chrysler Building to this day remains one of the
most important and beautiful skyscrapers of New York.
