Saint Patrick’s is a Neo-Gothic cathedral located on 5th
Avenue in midtown Manhattan, close to Rockefeller Center, and
is New York’s most important church.
Construction took place between 1853 and 1878, according to the
design of architect James Renwick and the architectural guidelines
of European Neo-Gothic cathedrals.
The cathedral is striking and is surrounded by the city’s
skyscrapers. It has a crosswise layout and divided into 3 naves,
as are the majority of European basilicas, with white marble decorations.
This layout is rarely found in New York.
