New York’s public transportation system is one of the most
extensive and complex in the world. The subway and buses run 24
hours throughout the 5 boroughs and carry more that 6 million
people each day.
New York’s subway system is extremely efficient. It is
now very safe, comfortable and convenient and is the easiest and
cheapest way to get around.
The best way to travel on New York City subway and buses is by
buying a MetroCard. There are automated MetroCard vending machines
in all subway stations. The fare for one ride is $2. Buses accept
exact fare, coins only.
MetroCards are pay-per-ride with a limited number of rides, or
unlimited. The $20 pay-per-ride MetroCard includes 11 trips and
can be refilled at your convenience. Unlimited MetroCard passes
are monthly, weekly or daily.
