One of the most awaited Summer Events is back this year and we will have the opportunity to walk without cars along Park Avenue. New York's annual Summer Streets features an
eight-mile program of activities & entertainment, starting from the Brooklyn Bridge in Lower Manhattan to East Harlem.
The event, which includes three Saturdays, will start on
Saturday August 6th, for the occasion the city offers unlimited 30-minute passes on Citi-Bikes – the rental is offered free of charge by Unlimited Biking, there will be six pick-up points along the way.
Not only New Yorkers love Summer Streets,
some 300,000 people flock to Park Avenue each year to play, run, walk, and cycle.
Daily activities and events will take place from 7 am to 1 pm on each Saturday.
Here some "appointments" along the route not to be missed:
- Foley Square:
Foley Square will host the Dance Party with Live DJ Music. While the Federation of Wheelchair Sports will host training sessions and live basketball matches.
- Astor Place:
Snacks and drinks on Lafayette Street and Broadway. Free fitness classes will take place in Cooper Square starting at 8:00 am.
- Rose Hill:
The Five Boro Bike Club will offer free bike repairs between 25th and 26th Street. The Department of Transportation's Truck's Eye View will allow children and adults to board a parked truck on Park Avenue between 26th and 27th Streets, while still on 27th Street, children will be able to have free lessons to learn how to ride a bike.
- Midtown:
Musical, dance and theater performances will be held at the Midtown Performance Stage at Rudin Plaza on Park Avenue, and interactive workshops for children aged 2 and above between 51st and 52nd streets.
- Upper East:
For those who enjoy Meditation, stretching and other fitness classes, free classes will be offered at East 81st Street, between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue, starting at 8:00 am.
- Uptown:
Musical, theater, and dance performances will be held at 109th Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue along with skating lessons.
