The Empire State Building Observatory is undoubtedly the most famous skyscraper of New York. It is 1250 feet tall, (1472 feet to the top of the spire, which was added in the 1950’s). The construction started in the 20s, and the construction budget was set at 60 million dollars (product of the optimistic 1920s). But the Empire State Building is a child of the Depression, the clearance of the site started only two months before the stock market crush. Remarkably, it was finished ahead of schedule and under budget, setting construction record still unrivaled.

Since 1976, the Façade has been illuminated with colored lights to commemorate holidays, the city’ ethnic communities, important victories by New York sports teams, and major events. The Empire State Building became an important tourist attraction thanks to the observation deck built a few floors below the top of the building, which offers impressive 360 degree views of Manhattan. The film industry largely contributed to the increasing fame of this building, especially with the movie King Kong.
