On this 2.30 hour walking tour, we will have the opportunity to visit Roosevelt Island, hop aboard the famous Tramway, leave the Big Apple ‘Hustle & Bustle’ behind us and enjoy the views over Long Island City and Manhattan from this Island right in the middle of the East River!!
At Roosevelt Island with the famous Tramway
We leave behind Manhattan "Concrete Jungle" to reach Roosevelt Island. Ready to get aboard the only aerial tram in New York City? We are talking about the famous Red Tramway that departs from Midtown East -- 60th Street & 2nd Avenue. You get access to the Tram by swiping the MetroCard (like any Subway ride); the ride takes about 6/8 minutes and we will be able to photograph the East River with the Queensboro Bridge and Midtown Manhattan as backdrop and arrive in the middle of the East River to enjoy the panoramic views over Manhattan and Long Island City.
Make sure to have your camera, camcorder or simply your phone ready to capture the ride and the incredible panorama unfolding right before our eyes. A great idea is to do a Time-Lapse of the whole ride, you won’t regret it!

Additional Description
What to see on Roosevelt Island
After the tram ride, we will walk to the southernmost tip of the island and visit the beautiful and peaceful 4 Freedoms Park dedicated to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The park was inaugurated in 2012 and is a tribute to the life and vision of Franklin D. Roosevelt as the son of the city of New York, and as a beloved President who with great courage fought to preserve and strengthen, in difficult moments, our Democracy.
The 4 Freedom Park at Roosevelt Island
The 4 Freedoms Park takes its name from the speech given by President FDR in 1941 to the State of the Union when He spoke of the four fundamental freedoms that people all around the world should have:
Freedom of speech
Freedom of worship
Freedom from want
Freedom from fear
Along the way to the 4 Freedoms Park, and later throughout the memorial, you will enjoy some of the most beautiful views of Midtown Manhattan with the iconic buildings of New York such as The Empire, The Chrysler Building, The United Nations Building, The American Copper Building, and of course The Queensboro Bridge. We will also have the opportunity to photograph the other ‘bank’ of the East River, that of Long Island City, with the famous symbol, now officially a Landmark, of the Pepsi-Cola. We'll walk around the FDR Memorial right to the southernmost tip of Roosevelt Island to get 360-degree views of the city and the East River.
Before leaving Roosevelt Island, time permitting, we will stop by the Blackwell House, one of New York's oldest homes dating back to 1796 when the island was still called Manning's Island (later the island was called Blackwell's Island and then Welfare Island). At the end of the tour, you can stay on the island for more photo-opportunities, or return to the tram or take the subway (F Train).
