EDITOR'S NOTE: Among the most beloved performances, don't miss the holiday show starring The Radio City Rockettes® - Step into the iconic Radio City Music Hall® - Tickets get sold out far in advance, so we suggest booking ahead of time. For special discounts, choose a week-day performance, especially during the daytime.

Christmas in New York City: What to Do and See

Skating at The Winter Village in Bryant Park

Not only does Bryant Park offer free skating on its expansive outdoor rink (you must bring your own skates to enter for free or rent a pair for a $$ fee), but it also boasts quality shopping: Urbanspace (the brand behind the holiday markets at Union Square and Columbus Circle) will bring over 180 holiday shops, including many new kiosks and restaurants, open until January 2, 2024.

Also making a return is the Small Business Spotlight, offering four small New York-based businesses owned by minorities and with annual revenues of a million dollars or less, the chance to showcase their products for free at the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park.

Beyond skating and shopping, you can also relax at The Lodge: an outdoor-themed après-ski covered area where visitors can savor festive cocktails, delicious food, watch the skaters, or admire the richly decorated Christmas tree.

Marvel at the Iconic Holiday Windows

Window-shopping inside and out of the city's top department stores is a dazzling experience, even if you're not planning to buy anything. The spectacular holiday windows are a feast for the eyes and should not be missed. The breathtaking displays along Fifth Avenue at places like Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue are an absolute must-sees, as well as Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and others around the city.

Bergdorf Goodman is a luxury store known for its wide range of high-quality products, including clothing, shoes, and accessories for men and women. Its windows are renowned for being cutting-edge yet elegant, especially during Christmas.

Bloomingdale’s, located on Third Avenue, offers an extensive selection of fashionable products, cosmetics, and home accessories. Its windows are always creatively decorated, often featuring seasonal themes, with Christmas being the pinnacle of splendor.

Another world-renowned department store is Macy’s on Thirty-Fourth Street, along with Saks Fifth Avenue on Fifth Avenue. Their holiday window displays are the most famous in the city, and not to be missed if you want to add some glamour to your Christmas in New York.

Strolling Through Dyker Heights

Dyker Heights, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, transforms into a must-visit destination during the holiday season. Each year, the residents deck out their homes with an array of lights and decorations, creating a magical and festive atmosphere. For the most stunning Christmas lights in Dyker Heights, it's recommended to visit the area between mid-December and New Year's Eve.

The most decorated streets range from 11th to 13th Avenue and from 83rd to 86th Street. The best time to explore the neighborhood is from 5 PM to 9 PM when the lights are shining bright, and the decorations can be seen in all their glory. Let a guided tour lead you to see the best displays with the Tour of Lights a Christmas in New York doesn't get more thrilling than this.

The Rockefeller Center is located in Manhattan, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and betwwen 48th and 52st Streets. The best time to visit its famous Christmas tree is from the end of November to New Year's. The tree lighting ceremony takes place on November 29th, but to avoid the crowds, consider visiting at a different time.

The tree is lit from 5 AM to midnight, except on Christmas Day, when it remains lit all day long. The last day the tree is lit is January 13th, from 6 AM to 10 PM.
