THE RESTAURANT WEEK WAS BORN IN NYC!

The first Restaurant Week was conceived by Tim Zagat and Joe Baum in 1992 during the Democratic Convention held in New York July 13th to the 16th. The Restaurant Week was designed to attract and satisfy guests, mostly journalists, looking for good and affordable dining options around the city.

The week-long event was such a success that over time it went from one week to four weeks-long and became a nationwide phenomenon. Since 2000, the winter version has also been established lasting 4 weeks as well.

It is a favorite event for New Yorkers and visitors alike, allowing patrons to try some of the best restaurants in New York at bargain prices!

NYC RESTAURANT WEEK - WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?

NYC offers 2 Restaurant Weeks during the year, the Winter version from mid-January to mid-February, and the Summer one from mid-July to mid-August. Some of the best NYC restaurants participate every year in this event offering prix-fixe meals for their lunches/brunches and dinners. Prices are set for each Restaurant Week and they may change. In recent years, we have seen Lunch Deals going from $25 to $35 (usually a two-course lunch) and Dinner Deals going from $39 to $45 (usually two-course dinner) and $59 to $65 (for three-course dinner). Please note that drinks are not included in the advertised prices. Tips (gratuity) and Taxes are extra as well.

WHO PARTICIPATES AND WHERE TO BOOK

To stay up to date on participating restaurants and to book your table visit the official NYC Restaurant Week website. Each edition features a different list of participating venues, however, you can rest assured there are always some of the best-known restaurants in the mix covering all the different cuisines. The advice is to book in advance. Each restaurant comes up with its own lunch and/or dinner menu offerings.

Irene was a FANTASTIC tour guide! She was so knowledgeable about the area and was so patient with all our questions. We stopped to use the bathroom and we got coffee halfway through, she was so kind! It was a pleasure learning about Brooklyn from you!

I’m the biggest fan of Fall activities, but haven’t had a chance to do anything beyond Apple Picking in NJ. I decided to take a last minute 2 day trip with a friend in Hudson Valley, but didn’t know where to start [...] Thankfully I was able to use New York Welcome to do the hard work for us [...]

The SATC walking tour is fabulous! Our tour guide was amazing. Friendly, helpful, accommodating and so knowledgeable about the city. It was essentially 2 tours in 1. SATC and visits to historical places in the city. I give this tour 5 stars and definitely recommend. Grab your walking shoes and schedule one today!
