When to come? Spring - Fall
If you want to take a long stroll off-the-beaten-path, I recommend a visit to Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery, you can reach it by subway (line R and get off at 25 Street Station.)
Inside the cemetery, by the main entrance, you can ask for a map and then simply walk through the paths. There are some hills, marked on the map from which you have wonderful views of the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, and the New Bay York. It is a walk that I recommend you do during the spring and/or fall months. Click here for the The Green-Wood Cemetery Map

To return to Manhattan, from Green-Wood Cemetery, you can walk towards the trendy and characteristic neighborhood of Park Slope (Brooklyn) here you will have the opportunity to relax in one of the many cafes and bars or stroll along the tree-lined streets adorned by beautiful Townhouses. Why not visit the historic The Old Stone House? (at n.336 3rd St, Brooklyn,) is an old stone house used by General Washington and his troops during the American Revolution. You can visit the house for free and learn interesting facts about the Brooklyn Battle. From Park Slope, you can continue to (1) the new-ish Barclay Center and Atlantic Avenue which is the modern Downtown Brooklyn, or (2) head to the Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill to continue walking through some of the most historic and residential areas of Brooklyn. If you keep walking this way, you will be able to reach Brooklyn Heights with great views over the Bridge and Downton Manhattan.

Remember that the city has also a 4th Brand-New Observatory (since March 2020.) It's called the Edge, located in the new commercial complex -- Hudson Yards. This new observatory features an open-air panoramic terrace on the 102nd Floor with glass-flooring!
